Gosia Martyniak, the artist

"My drive as an artist revolves around the idea of a beautiful death that does not equal finality. In my studio practice, I employ symbols of myth, art history, and fantastical narratives to fuel the imagery I render, exploring memento mori, urban ruin and post-mortem beauty. Much of my image resources include instances of life existing in cadavers, encompassing the idea that beauty will continue to thrive once we have succumbed to death, and we should be able to take solace from that. I feel that exploring such themes lends to healthy personal growth, humility and acceptance, liberating a person from the fear of death and inviting a greater appreciation of life. Much of my work is greatly inspired by Romantic ideals of beauty and the sublime, touching base with the spiritual essence found in nature. It is my intention to place these ideas in modern and contemporary places to bring light on the death that exists in the Anthropocene and highlight the resilient vitality that exists in spite of it."
about

Willowind Studios, the work

"The Grotesque Made Beautiful."
Although put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Willowind Studios hopes to establish a welcoming and memorable presence in the art community of London and its surrounding regions. This business offers paintings, prints, jewelry, pins, and glass objects through either stock or commission. The artist utilizes normally terrifying and unsightly aesthetics to make beautiful possessions to adorn yourself or your home.

Spicy Honey Heart is a branch of Willowind Studios that generates print-on-demand designs on sites like Society6, Redbubble, and Art of Where. The concepts are more open and lighthearted, based on the artist's inspirations, loves, and hobbies. You can find the shops by clicking the appropriate button provided on each page. This extension of the artist's practice is still active despite the pandemic.

She talks about why she make art, what ways she approaches work, current and past events, and much more!

Update: Posted weekly for 8 months, the artist elected to place blogs on hiatus, but be assured! Blog entries (and potentially podcast recordings) will be uploaded occasionally and when necessary.

I've created a Buy me a Coffee(Lifesblood) page! Here you can support me directly either once (which requires no signup) or monthly through a subscription. Any amount of donation helps me keep going!

I will also be offering packages such as personal studio tours, consultations and process footage that you can purchase, so stay tuned to catch those announcements. I would really appreciate your help.
