Firefighter Below the Sea of Smoke is a response to the accelerating rate of forest fires in North America due to climate change. As a Romanticist, I was pleased yet dismayed to find a reference photograph that mimicked Friedrich's Wandering Above the Sea of Fog. Determined to capture the spirit and sublime of the landscape, I employed my skills in vitreography and pulled various editions. Each pass possesses interesting qualities that capture the intensity and life of a wildfire, as well as the murky and suffocating destruction it unleashes.
